Appreciate Nature | Daily Quote #380
Not everything in life should revolve around our success or achievements...
“Finally, it is worth cultivating moments in life in which we feel immense satisfaction and happiness divorced from our own success or achievements. This happens commonly when we find ourselves in a beautiful landscape-the mountains, the sea, a forest. We do not feel the prying, comparing eyes of others, the need to have more attention or to assert ourselves. We are simply in awe of what we see, and it is intensely therapeutic. This can also occur when we contemplate the immensity of the universe, the uncanny set of circumstances that had to come together for us to be born, the vast reaches of time before us and after us. These are sublime moments, and as far removed from the pettiness and poisons of envy as possible.”
Robert Greene, The Laws of Human Nature
Not everything in life has to do with how 'successful’ you are. Much of what society deems ‘success’ is incredibly irrelevant in enabling a feeling of happiness. This feeling of happiness should not be dependant upon how many achievements we have, or the amount of recognition we get. We should be able to appreciate and bask in nature, and feel at peace.
Take time today: to feel the warmth of the sun on your skin; to feel hear the sounds of the world passing by; to appreciate the unlikely nature of life existing at all. When you can let go, for a moment, the need to achieve and just accept what is, then you will feel calm and rejuvenated.
