The Reason You Can Succeed | Daily Quote #441
The difference between achieving and not is often just a state of mind...
"You never think that you can fly
You’ll always swim against the tide”Birdy, Keeping Your Head Up
There is no difference between you and someone who has achieved things. Everyone is brought into this world with the same knowledge and experience - none. Don’t ever think that people are born with inherent talent, because that is not the case.
I cannot lie and say that some people are not born with different genetic pre-dispositions, or into better fortune. The clichéd example of the NBA basketball player being 6ft 6” is an example that some genes will give you a leg up in life, but equally Muggsy Bogues was only 5ft 3” and played in the NBA. Genes help, but are not the defining factor to your potential and success.
What determines how far you go in this life is the effort you put in. You have to smart though. What do you excel in compared to other people? What comes naturally and easy to you? That is where: if you combine this natural inclination with the (general rule of thumb) 10,000 hours of practice, you will be one of the best at that thing. If on the other hand, you choose something that you are not naturally good at, you can still achieve some level of success, but you will be swimming against the tide. It won’t come as easily to you.
Ultimately, keeping your head up and being positive about your potential will bring about more success than being pessimistic. You can fly if you start to believe that you are no different from anyone else who has already achieved - because you’re not. You are not worse. You just need to learn, practice, repeat. Over and over. You will get where you want to one day.
