This Will Outlast Us | Daily Quote #478
When all is said and done, this is what people will remember the most...
"What will survive of us is love.”
Philip Larkin, An Arundel Tomb
The thing people remember is not what you said, it’s not necessarily what you did, it’s how you made them feel.
You can earn more than anyone else in the world, become the richest person to have ever lived, but if you were a horrible person - that’s what people would remember.
It’s not even about being remembered by lots of people, being famous; it’s about being a wonderful person to those who care about you. You should wish to be cherished by those you love, and have them remember you for that reason - the way they feel about you.
Relationships, as I have written many times, are the most important thing for happiness. Tend to them. They do not maintain themselves. Care for other people. For those who matter: show them that you love them, and they will reciprocate.
At the end of the day, what will survive of us when we are gone is love.
