"I need you and I miss you. You know I’d walk a thousand miles, if I could just see you tonight.”
Vanessa Carlton, A Thousand Miles
As you receive this email to your inbox, I will be about to board a flight to travel back halfway across the world, back home. If travelling has re-emphasised anything to me, it is the importance of treasuring your loved ones.
They say technology bridges gaps, and it certainly goes some way. There is nothing quite like being in the proximity and presence of those you love, though. No amount of FaceTime or WhatsApp calls can make you feel the security, comfort, and warmth of being with loved ones.
We all too often take for granted our relationships. Forget how good we have it. How fortunate we are to have people in our lives who love us, and who we love back.
I may be flying several thousand miles over the next day or so, but I’d walk a thousand miles, if I could just see my parents, if I could just see my brother, and my dog, tonight.
Who would you walk to? Who have you been taking for granted? Relationships are the most important thing in the world. Let them know that they are appreciated and that you love them. I don’t think it is done enough. Maybe it isn’t seen as a cool thing to articulate, to be that vulnerable, but it is nice to hear and to know that you are loved.
Love those who love you, forever.
