What a Privilege Live Is | Daily Quote #289
A brilliant passage from the Stoic philosopher Epictetus regarding the gratitude we should all hold for life...
“When everything you have has been given you, including your very existence, you proceed to turn on your benefactor and fault him for taking things back. Who are you, and how did you get here? It was God brought you into the world, who showed you the light, gave you the people who support you, gave you reason and perception. And he brought you into the world as a mortal, to pass your time on earth with a little endowment of flesh, to witness his design and share for a short time in his feast and celebration. So why not enjoy the feast and pageant while it's given you to do so; then, when he ushers you out, go with thanks and reverence for what you were privileged for a time to see and hear.“
Epictetus, Discourses (Book IV, 1: On freedom)
Make that you enjoy life while you are here, in the present moment. Make the most out of your life. Be grateful for all of the things you get to witness, as life is the best gift of all. Be it long or short, the fact you got to experience the miracle of life is a wonder to behold. Nothing is more powerful for your happiness than this foundational gratitude.
